Ted Kaczynski's background


Theodore John Kaczynski (22 May 1942 - 10 June 2023), known as Ted Kaczynski , also known as the Unabomber, was an American mathematician and domestic terrorist. He was a mathematics prodigy, but abandoned his academic career in 1969 to pursue a primitive lifestyle. Between 1978 and 1995, Kaczynski murdered three people and injured 23 others in a nationwide mail bombing campaign against people he believed to be advancing modern technology and the destruction of the natural environment - Wikipedia


Because Ted Kaczynski's campaign of violence lasted so long, there are necessarily many issues to consider, particularly those actions that resulted in death first and last actions; and even actions that failed. Also we need to consider the impact on the victims and would-be victims, to fully understand how astrology contributes to history.


What makes Ted Kaczynski such a great example?

The first thing is to notice what stands out in terms of direct connections between the planets of Ted Kaczynski (sunsaturn)(saturnuranus) and most outstanding is the conjunction of Sun, Saturn and Uranus. This suggests someone of genius, which was borne out to some extent by his early career. However, Jupiter square Neptune suggests poor judgement, due to the immediate awareness of Jupiter not sitting comfortably with the dreams and idealism of Neptune. Clearly such a combination breeds a dangerous kind of delusion, where an obvious problem seems to demand a crazy solution.

Ted Kaczynski drops out

The first really significant date we know about is when Ted Kaczynski drops out of academia, eventually to take up residence in the wilds of Montana. Not totally unheard of in the 60s, but Ted was, by all accounts, someone who nursed resentments, so it is entirely possible that some earlier event from his life in Illinois prompted his later actions.


What we know from astrology is that his earlier life was marked by two significant transits of Pluto, first to his Chiron, and then to his Moon. The first during and after WWII, from when he was a toddler in November 1943 through to the end of 1948 when he was 6. This also coincided with the transit of Saturn across his Chiron in 1947. 1952 saw Ted moving within Chicago, where his high IQ saw him jump 6th grade, a pivotal moment that led to his feeling isolated and being bullied by the older children. This was accompanied by Pluto transiting across his Moon from 1951 to 1954.

Before we get into the actual bombings, it is worth looking at the target of the first bomb, in the light of Ted Kaczynski dropping out. This, I think, shows something of the deeper connection between people, and other things. A connection that relies not on anything real, or actual, but simply on the meaning of one coinciding with the meaning of the other. In astrological principle, the factors that make one person abstractly one thing, will act 'as if' they were interacting with the abstract factors of another person, simply because each acts according to his own nature.


It is not known why Ted Kaczynski (sunsaturn) (saturnuranus) chose Buckley Crist (sunmercury) (jupitersaturn) as a target, he was not especially prominent as an academic, just a minor engineering professor, but at a university just 30 miles from where Ted grew up and was living at the time. Kaczynski's targets were often chosen without a personal connection, based on their symbolic roles in advancing modern technology. However, at only a year older than Ted, Buckley was very representative of the people who bullied Ted after he skipped year 6 at school.


Ted's natal Jupiter was square Buckley's Neptune, Neptune square Buckley's Venus, and Pluto trine Buckley's Mars. Also, important in the light of Ted's Moon-Mars connections frequently present at bomb time, we can see that Ted's Mars was almost conjunct Buckley's Moon, and almost opposite Buckley's Sun-Mercury conjunction.


When we look at the connection between Buckley Crist and Ted dropping out of Academia, we see some very powerful connections.

The fourth bomb from Ted Kaczynski, on 10 June 1980, was sent to Percy Wood, President of United Airlines, at his home in Lake Forest, Illinois, who suffered severe cuts and burns over most of body and face.


Although there are not many transits going on this day, for Percy Wood, those that were reflect the Moon Mars aspects that are a theme for the Unabomber in general. It may seem that few transits is inappropriate for such a day, but really it shows the limited involvement of astrological meaning in what happened, from John G. Harris's point of view, perhaps because nothing much else was of concern to him.


Perhaps this shows that we ought to take into account slightly larger orbs for transits, particular those of outer planets, that repeat and last over long periods of time. This is considering that Pluto was less than three degrees from Percy's natal Mars.

Ted Kaczynski was convicted when he plead guilty, on 22 January 1998, and it is a great demonstration that the trine aspect is something that happens easily, but is not always a lucky thing, and often is so because of the otherness of one end of the aspect. As a footnote, there is not much point in arguing about the rights and wrongs of Ted Kaczynski. He was indiscriminately violent towards many innocent strangers, for which there can be no excuse. He may have had something of a point about the state of the World, but was foolish not to see that this was a political argument that needed to be made about the environment, and about Capitalism's exploitation of it and people. In the final analysis the line between things is often narrow, but his actions were mad, whether or not he was.
