St Michael Line

The St Michael Line is the Ley Line that runs from St Michael's Mount in Cornwall to St Michael at Plea in Norwich, taking in numerous Michael oriented landmarks on the way, and running on to a fair few more in Scandinavia, and pointing towards [although not following a geodesic to] Archangel in Russia. The line joins the towns and cities of Penzance, Truro, Tiverton, Wellington, Taunton, Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Wells, Trowbridge, Bath, Chippenham, Swindon, Oxford, Cambridge, and Norwich. There is another such line that is supposed to run from Ireland to the Holy Land, but as with many straight lines on old maps, they don't really work over long distances as geodesics, except for flat-earthers.

Why should a line of meaning be associated with either St Michael, or Mars for that matter? I think we get a clue from language, specifically Dutch, where we have the Aartsengel Michaël, and German where 'artz' is a doctor.

There are four archangels, and I would say that Michael associates with elemental earth, while Gabriel with fire, Raphael with water, and Uriel with air. So Michael defeating the dragon, or Satan in some versions, is all about an archeype of the rule of facts over the behaviour of matter. Real things cannot help but obey the natural law that derives ultimately from numbers.

My philosophy on life is that neither the Existentialists, nor the Idealists, were completely correct, but rather that meaning emerges from change. So whereas the landscape around is relatively static, providing a skeleton as it were, the historical events that have occured down the centuries have imparted meaning to the landscape. It may well be that it is all coincidental, but that is not the point. The key to it is that as things happen, as victories are won, as monuments are erected - whether prehistoric, such as the Uffington White Horse, or more recent, such as the Wellington monument - meaning adds to the land.

The two lines drawn emanating from St Michael's Mount in Cornwall, which we could call the landscape line [based on hills and ancient sites], and the history line [based on meaningful events and cities], separate by only 3 or 4 degrees, which to many people, astrologers anyway, is not considered a wide orb. It is debatable how wide a line is, it is debatable how long a line is, even how straight a line should be; so what then is a Ley Line, and how do we even know about them? Personally, I would think that it is usage that imparts meaning to the countryside, as much as it is usage that imparts the meaning of the gods to the planets, i.e. something like Rupert Sheldrake's Morphic Resonance is at work, so the historical events that occur join together locations, as well as people, in factual connections that are no more than virtual, existing as truths; existing 'as if' they are, because they were.

Determinism, the theory that all change must have some cause, applies as much to History as it does to Physics. Things happen for reasons, so for instance, there must have been a reason why, in the 400 years of Roman occupation of Britain, the Romans never occupied Cornwall. It would have been a relatively easy win, low hanging fruit, much easier than fighting the Germans, and it was basically in the emperor's job description to win at least one victory, somewhere. But not in Cornwall. Maybe the cause was something to do with tin mining.

Nobody really knows the reality, or potential of ley lines, nor how they may link to local space [the application of Astrology to the landscape around us]. But it may be that meaning, which is at the heart of all things, there in the facts that connect all things; it may be that meaning accumulates when we spend significant time in one place [and that may mean a lot of time, or it may mean an intense time - who knows? This is speculation.] If that is the case, it seems possible that where one's local space lines from a significant event cross one's local space lines from home [where the heart is], in such places some other significant event may occur. It also seems, to me anyway, that the halfway points along the lines, and between other significant places, also produce significant meaning in those locations - that was my experience.

Local Space

Local Space is a method of bringing the direction of each planet down to earth, i.e. down to the horizon surrounding your current position, to form your own personal set of ley lines. The theory is that when you travel along a particular line, then you are likely to encounter that archetype. Whether or not this is a true phenomenon, I can't rightfully say. However, I can truly say that I have encountered Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Uranus and Pluto themes along those specific lines.

The example shown is of my own local space lines.

Chiron is not shown, but for most of my generation Chiron is simply opposite Uranus, and so shares the same line.
