NB. I have included Chris Bonington in the Venus & Mars pairings, because although the are just over two degrees apart, his chart is set for midday - no time being known - so an earlier time would have seen a closer position. Also, they occupy the same middle tri-degree of Cancer, which is too significant to ignore.

What makes Doug Scott such a great example?

We don't have a birth time for Doug, but even so the striking feature of his natal chart is that he has natal Sun square natal Mars, and that at the time of his descent from The Ogre, he has just had Mercury conjunct natal Pluto, and had Venus conjunct Sun, Mars conjunct Uranus, and Uranus trine Mars. N.B. a trine is the next nearest thing to a conjunction, elementally.

We really need to take Doug Scott's example in contrast to those of Joe Simpson and Aron Lee Ralston who had experiences in some ways similar to that of Doug.
