Eugene Bullard's background

Information sourced from Wikipedia.

Eugene Bullard (born 9 October 1895) was the first African-American military pilot, who flew for France during World War I, after serving in the Foreign Legion and French Army, After the War he played in jazz bands, boxed, and owned nightclubs in Paris. During WWII he also fought for France before escaping to New York, where for many years he lived anonymously. During his military service, Eugene was wounded on a number of occasions, and awarded 15 medals. In America he was beaten during the Peekskill riots. In 1959, he was interviewed on NBC's Today Show by Dave Garroway and received hundreds of letters from viewers. - Wikipedia

(wikitree) Eugene Bullard gives Eugene's family tree. However, the birth year is given as 1894, but this is incorrect as many other records confirm 1895, not least the 1900 census which records both month and year of birth, which could not be clearer. Additionally, I may say that the 1895 astrology is much more impressive than that for the same day in 1894. This little factette is really another plus for the case for Astrology.

19120304 Stows Away on Board the Marta Russ bound for Aberdeen

In early 1912 the 16 year old Eugene 'made his way to Norfolk, Virginia where he stowed away on the German freighter Marta Russ, hoping to escape racial discrimination.'.

We don't have a birth time for Eugene, but even so the striking feature of his natal chart is that he has natal Sun conjunct natal Mars and Chiron, with a trine from Neptune, and that at the time of his stowing away, while Uranus had made ingress into Aquarius, which was to prove so important over the coming years, it was Pluto - the planet of death and rebirth - that was receiving all the focus of the moment, a moment that for Eugene was to give a new life.

19160305 Wounded in battle at Verdun

Eugene participated in the fighting on the Somme, Champagne, and Verdun, where he was severely wounded on March 5, 1916.

The feature of his natal chart, where he has natal Sun conjunct natal Mars and Chiron, with a trine from Neptune, was at the time of his being wounded at Verdun, involved a grand trine formed by a conjunction of transiting Mercury and Uranus trine both natal Sun, Mars and Chiron, and natal Neptune. That trine from Uranus was a key feature for Eugene, for much of WWI, from 1912 onward, when Uranus made ingress into Aquarius, and Eugene stowed away on the Marta Russ. Uranus only left Aquarius in 1919.

N.B. a trine is the next nearest thing to a conjunction, elementally.
