W.B. Yeats and his muse Maud Gonne's background

Nobel winning poet William Butler Yeats famously wrote many a poem on account of his muse Maud Gonne, but their long relationship was conducted more as friends, and if it ever became as lovers it was so only briefly, and seemingly unsatisfactorily so. He proposed to her many times but was always declined. So why was this?

What makes W.B. Yeats and his muse Maud Gonne such a great example?

He was a solar Gemini, she Sagittarius, and fundamentally there you have the classic case of opposites attract but have a different outlook on life.

Millevoye

But also, at the time when Yeats first met Maud, she already had a lover in the form of the rather unpleasant French politician Lucien Millevoye, who may have been the model, or at least supplied the name, for Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter tales.

Millevoye was a Leo, and much older than Maud, but his fiery brand of foolhardy boldness she appears to have found to be attractively courageous. He was her first love and father to her first two children, and even though she was a woman of independent means, she would have been accurately described as his mistress, as he was married to another.

So the simplistic interpretation is that the fiery Leo is a more comfortable choice for Sagittarius than is Gemini, but really we would have to look closer, and start by realising that she found Yeats' talent more attractive than the man himself.

Millevoye was caught up in the Dreyfus affair, on the wrong side.

She eventually left Millevoye after 13 years, he was the older man, both of which facts suggest Saturn.
