Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels's background
Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were the authors of the Communist Party Manifesto, but beyond being a major political influence, theirs was a relationship, almost of patronage, on account of Marx being a penniless refugee in London, and Engels being a wealthy individual who believed strongly enough in Marx, or the cause, to support Marx financially. They also corresponded extensively, and from that we see their attitudes to many things, including the untimely death of Ferdinand Lassalle, a fellow socialist who was shot in a duel in Switzerland.
As with all historical characters, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were a product of their times. As such we should neither judge them by modern standards, nor allow any ad hominem arguments against their politics, the merits or otherwise of which stand apart from the people who created them.
What makes Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels such a great example?

It seems a little odd that Engels should have supported Marx financially, but then again not, after all he could afford to, he was a socialist, they seem to have been friends, and certainly they shared the same political objectives. The relationship between the two makes even more sense when we compare their birthcharts, for which we have AA rated timings.
The chart shown is the birth of Karl Marx with the birth of Friedrich Engels as transits.
The most significant aspects between them natally are
- Engel's Moon loosely opposite Marx's conjunction of Chiron and Pluto

- Engel's Mars conjunct Marx's Uranus

- Engel's Jupiter conjunct Marx's Saturn

The Moon opposition is unusual, firstly because we usually have to deal in dates alone, but in this case we have good times, thanks to efficient German records. Also it suggests nurturing, for Marx from the Eighth house [by sign]. There is doubtless more that could be said, but the aim here is to make the case for Astrology, not for Marx.
18640831 Ferdinand Lassalle's death

Ferdinand Lassalle was a socialist agitator who greatly irritated Marx, and who challenged a love rival to a duel in which he, Lassalle, was shot in the stomach; a wound from which he died three days later.
The book of letters 'Written in History', by Simon Sebag Montefiore, has some of Marx's correspondence with Engels that relates to this incident; not only very un-PC, but also very angry with Lassalle, who then dies in the duel. By the time Marx feels some sympathy for Lassalle [the 7 September], expressed when he writes to Engels, he [Marx] has the following transits.
- Transiting Sun opposite natal Saturn completing the grand trine implied by his natal Sun and Moon trine Jupiter

- Transiting Jupiter trine Marx's natal Mars
- Transiting Pluto conjunct Marx's natal Sun
The chart shown is the birth of Karl Marx with the date of the letter following the death of Ferdinand Lassalle as transits.
