Eric Satie was a French musician, composer of the unusually haunting melodies of Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, and pianist for the cafes of Montmartre. He was a notable eccentric, and could not have been called a ladies man, having only one romantic relationship in his life, for five months during 1893.


Suzanne Valadon was an artist who was romantically involved with Eric Satie. She appears to have been far more worldly wise than Eric, and left on her own terms. The following year she became the first woman painter admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.


Eric Satie was so out of his depth with Suzanne Valadon, and the episode left him scarred, But what could explain the attraction from her part when all things considered he was punching so far above his weight?


Some while before meeting Eric Satie, Suzanne Valadon was modelling for and probably involved in a relationship with Henry Toulouse-Lautrec which illustrates her nature a little more
