What makes The Mitfords and the Nazis such a great example?

The Mitfords were an aristocratic family of six daughters and one son; the son died in the war, but the daughters were the ones who created a stir, most of them for being politically extreme. Biographer Laura Thompson calls them 'prize exhibits in a museum of Englishness'.

Diana Mitford and Adolf Hitler

Diana Mitford, younger sister to Nancy, was the greatest fan of Adolf Hitler, perhaps only matched by her younger sister Unity. In 1933, Diana went to Germany with the then 19-year-old Unity, where they attended the first Nuremburg rally. We can see the clear, yet different forms of attraction

The leading fascist among the sisters, Diana shared a Venus position with Hitler, and had a natal Sun and Pluto conjunction that forms its own feedback, and goes a long way to explain the appeal that power had for her. Diana's natal chart indicates that the moment of Unity's suicide attempt had great personal meaning for Diana, but as this was the outbreak of WWII that would have been the case for many millions.

The chart shown is the birth of Adolf Hitler, with the birth of Diana Mitford as transits.

Diana Mitford and Oswald Mosley

In 1936 Diana married Sir Oswald Mosley, fascist leader of the Blackshirts in England, a former MP, and father to the disgraced Tory MP, Max Mosley. Diana had met Oswald in February 1932, and soon after this they became lovers.

Mosley's wife, Cynthia, died of peritonitis in 1933, after which Mosley married his mistress, Diana Guinness, née Mitford (1910-2003). They married in secret in Germany on 6 October 1936 in the Berlin home of Germany's Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda Joseph Goebbels. Adolf Hitler was their guest of honour.

Unity Mitford and Adolf Hitler

Unity Valkyrie Mitford was conceived in the town of Swastika, Canada, and as a teenager was a big fan of Adolf Hitler. She went on to stalk him in Germany during the summer of 1934, eventually developing some sort of a relationship. One that turned sour on the outbreak of WWII, when Unity became the third of Hitler's female companions to attempt or succeed at suicide with a gun.

Quite apart from the strange fact of her being conceived in Swastika, Canada, and her middle name, Valkyrie, Unity was an ardent admirer of Hitler, and potential rival to Eva Braun.

Like Hitler she had a conjunction of Venus and Mars in an earth sign, but perhaps more telling as an explanation is that her natal Sun was just past 15 degrees of Leo, a Mandala point that lacks earth, but which is close to Hitler's natal Saturn, which at that location can produce earth from the air. So, potentially, Unity is able from her teenage years to derive some sense of self by identifying with the Fuhrer. You might say he was the solution to her undoubted daddy issues.

Like her sister, fellow fascist Diana, Unity became obsessed and went to Germany to attend the annual Nuremburg Rally in August 1933, she returned to Germany, to stalk Hitler on a daily basis from June 1934, finally meeting him on 9 February 1935.

On the 3 September 1939 she apparently shot herself in the head, but failed to kill herself.

Taken to Switzerland Dec 1939 Bern

Repatriated to England 3 Jan 1940 Her mental age was likened to that of a 10 year old, or a 'sophisticated child'

Died in Scotland 28 May 1948

Geli Raubal and Adolf Hitler

Geli Raubal was Hitler's half-neice, who went to live with him in 1925.

Either Geli shot herself, or else Hitler shot her, on 18 September 1931. The official line is that it was suicide, but I'd say that the astrology suggests that he did it. As does common sense, given the circumstantial evidence.

Was she pregnant by Hitler, as rumoured ?

Hitler began seeing more of Eva Braun after Raubal's suicide.

The chart shown is the birth of Adolf Hitler, with the birth of Geli Raubel as transits.

Eva Braun and Adolf Hitler

Eva Braun met Hitler round about 1930, and by 1932 was seeing him often, in what was a secret relationship. She attempted suicide twice, the first time on 10 or 11 August 1932, shooting herself in the chest with her father's pistol, supposedly in an attention seeking move. She finally died by suicide from cyanide, with Hitler in 1945.

The chart shown is the birth of Adolf Hitler, with the birth of Eva Braun as transits.

Eva Braun and Unity Mitford

In May 1935, Eva took an overdose of sleeping pills. She was apparently upset by the presence of Unity Mitford in Hitler's life.

The chart shown is the birth of Unity Mitford, with the birth of Eva Braun as transits.

According to William Stuart-Houston, a son of Adolf's brother Alois,

When I visited Berlin in 1931, the family was in trouble. ... Everyone knew that Hitler and she had long been intimate and that she had been expecting a child - a fact that enraged Hitler.

There is a curious similarity with the apparent suicide of Geli Raubal, and the suicide attempt of Eva Braun; both occurred with the transit of Saturn over their natal Uranus, quite precisely. But the other features tell quite different stories. Particularly the placing of Mars.

For Geli, , transiting Mars was at 0.46 Scorpio at midday on the 18th September, precisely opposite Hitler's natal Sun, and right in his first house.

For Eva, transiting Mars was at 3.44 Cancer at midday on the 10th August, a point where the degree is water and the central third is earth

We have birth times for neither Geli, nor Eva, but we do have a time, and so an ascendant, for Adolf. This places Mars right by Adolf's ascendant when Geli is shot in the chest, and dies. But when Eva attempts suicide Mars is making an approaching trine to its position at Geli's death. The distinction is crucial, because as we have seen with my own Mars transits, Mars (or any planet) by the ascendant is a sign of oneself expressing that planet's alchemy.

There were other factors, but I would say (without much fear of any comeback) that Hitler murdered Geli, because her pregnancy by him was politically inconvenient, and that he was angry about the embarassment of it.

A later suicide attempt by Eva followed a few months after Unity met Hitler, and this, like the others, shows clearer connection to Hitler than to the women involved, and I think it is fair to speculate on a level of gaslighting, if not actual involvement, especially with the death of Geli Raubal.

Hitler the Human Being

It is almost universal to condemn Hitler outright as the arch stereotype of evil, as a psychopath, as a sado-masochistic archetype of villainy. But these responses to his very great evils do us all a disservice, because they cast Hitler in as inhuman a light as he did his millions of victims.

It does us a disservice because it prevents us from seeing that we too are flawed, maybe not so extremely, but nevertheless none of us is perfect. This fact makes it important to see all villains clearly, as the complex compound individuals that they undoubtedly are, and if it is ever appropriate, we should allow ourselves to recognise where a villain has virtuous human traits.

Seeing everyone as combinations of good and bad is the first step to learning how to forgive, and we certainly do need to learn that lesson. If we are ever wronged, and then fail to see humanity in the wrong-un, the perpetrator of the wrong, we only extend our own suffering, by learning that our own sins are as implacably unforgivable, so we burden ourselves with guilt and shame.

Seeing all people clearly, as flawed individuals, as animals even, allows us to overcome the 'Us and Them' separation inherent in both the politics and behaviour, of those whose purpose [consciously or not] is to divide us, and thereby harm us, and turn us into equally divisive agents of evil.
