Gay Gibson was a 21 actress who in 1947 was returning from South Africa, voyaging first class on the MV Durban Castle when she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. It was eventually decided in court that a ship's steward, James Camb, had murdered Gay Gibson and pushed her body out through the cabin porthole and into the sea. He was sentenced to hang, but a moritirium on the death penalty meant that he just went to prison.

Nobody really knows what happened, and there have been opinions expressed supporting both guilt and innocence, although the evidence of both male and female steward's having been summoned suggests guilt, not to mention the vanished body. He claimed that she died during consensual sex and that he panicked and disposed of her body through the porthole.
